An elegant walled courtyard garden had been designed by Henrietta Murray-Wicks to compliment a new access route to the garden from a decked walkway positioned off the kitchen. Large glass doors from the kitchen meant the new garden was always on display and a terrace that was inviting yet functional was designed to be appropriate for a young family. The hard material palette combined the use of warm coloured materials, weathered hardwood decking.

ELEGANT WALLED SPACE FULHAM DESIGN SPECIALIST.
New sawn Yorkstone paving and traditional handmade clay brick pavers laid in a delicate herringbone pattern, and was balanced by layers of lush green planting.Wide hardwood decking steps on a power coated steel frame create main and grand access to the garden from the upper level of the house, into the elegant outdoor entertaining space. Lower level paving area at the basement level is hidden under the stairs utilises a large bespoke storage unit clad with Western Red Cedar slats in horizontal design. Lower and upper paving areas are connected by a run of side steps finished with bull-nosed sawn Yorkstone and risers. Design of the storage units matches the trellis installed on top of all boundary walls.

A sculptural tree with a lifted canopy was planted to create shade for a central lounge seating area and also provide height within the garden. Surrounding seasonal planting consisted of a combination of evergreen shrubs (Taxus Baccata, Sarcococca confusa), flowering climbers (Trachelospermum jasminoides, Rosa ‘New Dawn’) and colourful accent plants / bulbs that helped to reflect the client’s Californian Heritage.This small city garden also incorporates an outside storage space neatly discussed behind a yellow stock brick located in left hand side front corner of the garden. Soft uplighting was set amongst the planting enhanced by the addition of free standing lanterns. Timber steps and the storage units where installed by The Garden Trellis Company.
