Courtyard Garden Private Bank
DESIGNED BY STRIDE TREGLOWN & CONSTRUCTED BY THE GARDEN BUILDERS.
This courtyard garden of a major international bank was built over the garage roof of an underground car park and required careful construction using lightweight materials. Dispensing with a sub-base or sand/cement mortar bed, the project utilised the Buzon pedestal method to lay all paving to reduce its weight and for easy drainage when paving in this kind of environment.

The paving consisted of textured white sandstone and black granite. Lightweight blocks were likewise used for the raised beds, which were then rendered. The centrepiece curved seats surrounding the planting were made of iroko wood. Shade-tolerant planting was selected for the foliage to best thrive in the courtyard garden’s lighting conditions.
