This expertly designed and conceived roof terrace is situated in the heart of Kensington, London. Built by the Garden Builders; this Urban delight is an example of bold, structural planting working in harmony with crisp, modern materials and design, within the backdrop of a vast cityscape.

Overlooking London, this roof garden (Designed by Maitanne Hunt) offers a limited palette of hard landscape materials, the robust but natural looking composite decking anchors the mix of powder coated planters and handmade feature pots, allowing the sustainable and diverse planting to do its job and soften the building lines and offer privacy and sanctuary.

This garden design incorporates a sophisticated lighting scheme with John Cullen LED fittings both surface mounted and part buried, hidden by the plants, this combination of feature up-lighting and task lighting allows full enjoyment of the garden both when interacting with in the garden and when being viewed from within. It is even more successful as this is achieved by a light touch to not add to increasing light pollution.

Kensington Garden Design

The Solus, hand-made fire bowl uses environmentally friendly flammable liquid to create warmth and ambience, allowing full enjoyment in the colder days and nights. It doubles as a fantastic focal point for the garden providing a link between formal and informal zones.

This was a challenging build, our only access to the 12th floor was via external fire escape, so a scaffold and hoist was erected to enable the safe lifting and shifting of all the materials and specimen trees. Logistics needed to be managed day to day so deliveries did not clash, NO materials could be left on the ground at the end of a days work, so we had ensure we could safely and carefully move deliveries from the roadside on the terrace, keeping neighbours and building management happy was a critical part of this project.

The decking for this build was supplied by Environ Build which a highly durable and reversible anti-slip decking that is made almost entirely of recycled materials adding to the goal of reducing our carbon footprint. The featured pots for the planting are manufactured by Torc Pots which are unique, handcrafted and built to last a lifetime. Finally, all planters and mirrors within the garden are supplied by local artisan fabricators which helps to promote local London businesses. All in, The Garden Builders delivered this collaborative endeavour, on time, on budget and to exacting levels of finish.
