Design by The Garden Builders with Pippa Martlew

Commercial Landscaper - The Hippodrome Casino

The Garden Builders were appointed after some intense design presentations to the management team of The Hippodrome Casino (London). We were tasked with the full design and build of the Landscape elements of this 3000 Sq Ft, multi-levelled terrace, bar and Roof top.

Working in full collaboration with Pippa Martlew, we digested the plethora of requests from the various department heads of the Hippodrome as well as the Architects involved in the overall build HW Architects and came up with a cohesive design that linked the outside/inside spaces together in a way that replicated the Hippodromes tastes and requirements.

The roof top comprises of 2 floors of gaming, two bars and open air seating. It provides significant, additional, prized outside space, allowing people that valuable, distanced, airy, outside room especially important in the wake of COVID 19.

COMMERCIAL LANDSCAPING CONTRACTOR

Simon Thomas, CEO and chairman of The Hippodrome Casino. We are incredibly excited to welcome our customers back and The Rooftop is an integral part of this new chapter. The layout allows a huge amount of footfall traffic to wonder through, stop, take in the landscape and outside space and all the features, sit have a drink, a flutter and even smoke. Whilst being safely spaced, partially outside whilst still being integrated into the Hippodrome for all gaming activities. The floors are a hard-wearing composite Millboard decking interspersed with robust and thoroughly realistic artificial lawn areas to house planting areas and areas to get away from the crowd. The vertical spaces are softened and landscaped by realistic Artificial green walls from Vista Folia, their new range of panels are both internally and externally viable being both UV rated and fire rated. These stunning, panels offer a green solution where their natural counterparts would struggle and require huge resources to maintain. The Vista Folia panels require very little aftercare and require minimal depth and are easily fixed to all vertical surfaces. Their efficient and problem-solving in-house team fitted and dressed the panels around some very tricky detailing. Mirrored arches within trellis panels and within arches of the artificial green walls all finished in complementing painted wood and distressed aluminium finishes provide focal features to rest the eyes on. A bespoke 3m Copper, distressed water wall provides some relief for the eyes and ears. All these features cleverly and gracefully sit within the big architectural features such as the bars and original walling surfaces.

A clever combination of artificial plants and natural plants in an eclectic selection of unique specially finished urns, planters and trough are positioned to maximise light and air if natural and if un natural, spruce up a dark corner, all the time providing simple focal points and division. The aim overall was to provide a clean, no too modern twist on a neo-classical and whimsical garden space, on a commercial roof top in Central London and feedback from client and end users is, that it does this magnificently.
