Garden Designer Guildford

Designed by Lynne Marcus and constructed by The Garden Builders

Landscape Contractor Surrey

This Urban Oasis in Guildford Surrey Borders was constructed and planted by The Garden Builders who were engaged by the designer Lynne Marcus Garden Design, to bring her design to fruition. The implementation of this lusciously green space began with dividing the garden in to three distinct areas. The garden is entered by a modest terrace of a polished concrete finish. Powder coated-aluminium planters in an anthracite grey border the terrace and are densely planted with a mix of flowering shrubs and a limited palette of perennials.

A raised decked pathway leads from the gleaming terrace to the hot tub area where an evergreen screen of Pyracantha provides privacy for the owners. The plethora of trees and plants in this garden provides a beautiful setting in which to enjoy from the water all year round. Opposite the hot tub a Griselinia littoralis hedge with low under-planting was used for screening, due to its drought-tolerant capabilities, traditionally used as a coastal evergreen plant. Lollipop Bay trees were chosen to bring shape and height to the garden while hydrangeas and flowering herbaceous plants bring bursts of colour to the contrast with the backdrop of green.

An elevated timber decked, hardwood yellow Balau path leads on to a further Harwood Timber decked terrace on which sits a secluded seating area from which to enjoy another view of this vibrant garden. Also leading to this terrace area are self -binding gravel paths on a geotextile membrane with metal edging bringing yet another texture to this sensory filled enclosure.

The seating area is surrounded by another Pyracantha screen which sits in front of a slatted screen fencing which flanks both sides of the garden to add to the private feel, painted black to allow the differing foliage to shine against the black shadows of the perimeter fence.

This lucky homeowner also has 2 upper terraces/balconies on which to view the garden from, each includes a seamless glass balustrade allows for unobstructed views, with Balau timber decked terraces in a herringbone pattern which a clever design detail and tricky to install, as well as warming gas burners enabling the owners to enjoy the outside area throughout all seasons of the year. These upper terraces are successfully linked to the ground floor garden as they each mirror the use of the Powder Coated Aluminium planted containers.

Tap mounted irrigation and discreet lighting are discreetly woven into all planted areas to ensure the success of the planting and allow enjoyment throughout the nights.
