Traditional Style Garden Design

Garden designed by Lynne Marcus and constructed by The Garden Builders

Hampstead Family Garden Designer

This deceptively large and neo-classical suburban garden was designed by Lynne Marcus and she chose The Garden Builders to implement her design.

The transformation began at the front garden with traditional style railings and gate to match the characteristics of the Hampstead area in which the house sits. Leading to the formidable entrance sleek grey reconstituted paving from Minster-Stone was used with a 'wet cast' Portland finish. The stone was cut into various bespoke sizes to create the steps leading to the house. Decorative lead planters flank the doorway with specimen multi-stem birch trees and fern under-planting. Sarcococca hookeriana var humilis and Yew were planted to create vibrant evergreen planting to the front garden to anchor the house in greenery. Bricked raised beds were constructed to match the house and planted with more formal style plants to reflect the decorative architecture of the house.

Using the same Minster-stone as the steps, formal pathways of stone cut to a plank style design allow flow from the front and side access into the rear. The back garden is dominated by a vast green lawn and protected Beech trees are integrated into a feature of the garden design. Further railway sleepers provide an edging to the lawn separating the areas and offering a contrast of colour from the vivid green of the lawn to the strong dark paving and the bright flowers of the outer flowerbeds.

A large stone terrace was constructed allowing the clients to have a comfy outside entertaining area leading directly off their main internal living space. A smaller seating area sits to the other end of the terrace allowing for a more intimate space to enjoy the colourful garden from. Sitting here you are able to take-in the long view to the Hampstead Village skyline.

A lot of time and detail was put into the planting design of this garden. Pleached trees stand tall along the boundary wall offering a contrast in height to the bright mixed lower planting and providing effective screening to the adjacent building. Decorative lead planters with palm trees have been placed discreetly around the Garden providing an alternative way to bring more planting to the space while providing another subtle shade of green.

A further raised timber bed was built, this time to house a vegetable garden enabling the client and their children to not only enjoy this area but to use its produce too!

A sophisticated irrigation system was integrated into the design and build of the garden servicing all plants, this is cleverly hidden with black stained timber screens. An eclectic mix of light fitting were selected to illuminate this multi-levelled garden, whilst expertly casting shadow and light on the feature trees and shrubs and client-own sculptures woven into the garden tapestry.
