Farnham Garden Design

The clients at this new build house in Surrey asked Andy Sturgeon Design to produce a fantastic garden design for them.

Once you enter the garden you are immediately taken back by the stunning sweeping curves of the large scale gabion retaining walls that run for over forty meters. The cages were carefully filled with Purbeck stone to give great impact to the garden and is a cheaper alternative to brick or block built walls. On the other side of the drive was mature clipped blocks Carpinus hedging of various height to help graduate the decline in levels from the raised drive down to the house. The drive itself was a chip and tar install (this is where hot tar is poured over a macadam surface and gravel rolled into the tar prior to setting). This type of installation is a cheaper alternative to the expensive resin bound surfaces also available to use on driveways.

Around the house comprised of a multi-level Ipe hardwood decking with access steps at various points to accommodate the various level changes and lead you into different areas of the garden.

The garden itself required an astonishing amount of grading and levelling to achieve the required contours prior to laying the new lawns and wild flower meadow. Throughout the garden spotlights shone up large mature trees and onto newly planted trees and shrubs to give a fantastic appearance at night.

A sculptural fire table took prime location on a new raised platform that looked out onto surrounding landscape.
