Wimbledon Family Garden Design

Designed & constructed by The Garden Builders

Garden with three distinct areas

The client was delighted with our one-stop shop service and entrusted to us all aspects of the design and build of this ample-spaced suburban garden for a growing family in Wimbledon. We were commissioned to design a garden adults and children can enjoy together and separately while respecting the high-quality design and finish of the house.

The garden is divided into three distinct areas - a formal dining terrace, the lawn and the rear area.

The terrace featured rendered raised beds painted in a variety of slate tones, dressed up with mixed perennials, screening plants, and most important, culinary plants. The paving was laid in a random-coursed pattern, combining textured stone and contrasting slate colours. We were presented with contemporising a pizza oven purchased by the client. We disguised the oven's unusual shape by building a rendered, sleek concrete box which was then tied to the nearby raised beds.

The lawn area was characterised by raised sleeper beds of varying height with mixed planting of evergreen screening plants and seasonal perennials. A line of Amalanchier hid the new shed from full view. For maintenance purposes, the level lawn was fully drained and edged.

The rear area served as the children's play zone and storage space. An artificial lawn was laid to withstand heavy foot traffic. To create seamless green space, the artificial lawn was butt-jointed to the natural lawn. The rear area features a wooden play frame which was secured to concrete mini piles.

The scheme was complemented by discreet landscape lighting for appreciating the vistas during summer evenings and winter month. The numerous evergreen screening shrubs and water-loving perennials were maintained by an irrigation system.
